Has "our fair city" been saved?

Stop the presses!
Cancel the funeral!
Deep six the obituaries!

The latest news is that the city council thinks there's a possibility of Pacific acquiring a new insurance carrier when its insurance coverage runs out Dec. 31. Speculation is that the coverage will be more expensive and less comprehensive, but at least the most notorious city in Western Washington, the one famous for turmoil, dysfunctionality, unethical conduct and alcoholic, law-breaking public officials, will be able to keep on  bumbling along.
Looks like my suggestion yesterday that it's time to work on those New Year's resolutions might gain some traction. Paying a higher premium with less coverage would not only keep the city alive; those higher premiums would also remind the city government that sin comes with a price.

Yesterday I obliquely suggested that the first resolution might be to leave innocent people alone. Don't harass people who aren't causing anyone any harm.

And here is Resolution Number Two for your consideration: Any time some some city officials or political operatives think it's a bright idea to manipulate a mentally ill individual into once more poisoning the political cesspool of Pacific with rabid, hysterical invective and nasty anonymous character assassination mailings, you don't buy into it. You simply don't feed that beast. The perpetrators and the individual being manipulated should receive the coldest of shoulders.
